Recently, I jumped into the new beta version of Adobe Photoshop and tested the new feature that is creating a lot of buzz: Generative AI Autofill.

Designed to save time and effort and, most importantly, do things previously almost impossible, this feature uses artificial intelligence to fill empty spaces on the canvas automatically (among other things). But what happens when we take this tool to the extreme?

Armed with curiosity and some time to waste over the long weekend, I embarked on a digital adventure. Instead of simply using the tool for small additions, I decided to push its boundaries. I continuously expanded the canvas, then ran the Generative AI Autofill feature to see how it would fill the newly created spaces.

What emerged was something unexpected. At first, it did a wonderfully fantastic job of expanding my original photo, as can be seen here.

But I decided not to stop there and continued to add canvas about 2000 pixels at a time, over and over and over again. As time went on, it started crafting something entirely different. As you can see from the title image at the top, slowly but surely, a futuristic dystopian city began to emerge from Photoshop's generative artificial intelligence.

Here's an animated video to show you from start to finish and back again.

The Photoshop generative AI feature has crafted a tool that enhances the user's creativity and showcases the untapped potential of AI in digital art.

What will you create with Photoshop's Generative AI Autofill?
